Core Capital Management and Research, Inc. is a privately owned Registered Investment Advisor located in Houston, Texas providing highly personalized concierge service to institutional and private clients.  Core Capital has been named one of the top wealth management firms for three years in a row by the Houston Business Journal and has been recognized nationally for the second year in a row as a Five Star Wealth Manager.  

While most firms offer intuition and speculation on the next hot stock, Core Capital replaces investment bias, emotions and noise with data and evidence based investing in a discpilined strategy for our clients.  Working with esteemed financial researchers from around the country, CCMR has analyzed a large sample of data encompassing nearly 50 years of investment history to find evidence of factors that drive returns across all market cycles.  Based on the evidence of this research, we systematically apply these predictive factors to objectively select investments to achieve superior long term performance.

Who We Are

Louis J. Pelz

Lou is the founder and CEO of Houston based Core Capital Management & Research, Inc. In 1987 Lou started his career as an Institutional Bond Salesman for Underwood Neuhaus, once the oldest Texas investment banking firm specializing in underwriting and sales of municipal and government agency bonds. In 1993 Lou moved to Coastal Securities located in Houston, Texas where he became Senior Vice President. Lou provided a broad range of professional investment services to institutional investors across the United States and worldwide. Some of his clients included Western Asset Management, Mitsubishi, and Blackrock. In 1995 Lou became Managing Director of Fixed Income at M.J. Whitman, Inc located in New York, NY. where he specialized in trading, underwriting & securitization.
Lou is a native of the Houston area and graduated from University of St. Thomas in Houston with a degree in Business and Economics in 1980. He continues to be actively involved with the University of St. Thomas serving on the President’s Advisory Board and the Advisory Committee of the University of St. Thomas Nursing School. He is an active member in his community and currently serves on the following boards: Scholarship Program for Houston Youth, Sam Houston Area Boy Scouts of America, the University of Houston Honors College and is the chairman of the investment committee for the Christus Health Foundation.

John J. Barry

John was the President of JB3 Financial Group when they merged with Core Capital Management. John began his career in financial services with Copperstone Partners, a life insurance advisory firm to high net worth clients. As a licensed insurance agent, he helped clients with complex insurance issues and large estate tax exposure. John became an Investment Advisor Representative (IAR) to bring many of the “secrets” of financial planning which high net worth clients employ to the average hard working investor. John is a graduate of the University of Dallas with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics. He continued his education at the University of Houston, Bauer College of Business where he earned his M.B.A. with Honors.
At Core Capital Management and Research, John works with clients to develop financial plans in tune with their priorities and goals. John develops client presentations, meets with clients to discuss investment strategies and ensures that every client feels secure and stress-free as they approach their retirement years. At home in Houston, where he and his wife, Nancy grew up, they are extremely busy raising their three young daughters and even younger son. John spends his time away from the office coaching all of his children’s sports teams, volunteering at their schools and at St. Michael Church where he has been a parishioner since 1982. He is an active member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Calf Scramble Committee, which is dedicated to the funding of scholarships, educational endowments and other educational programs.
